February 2010

We travelled to Clare on February 19th to reunite with Dusty after floods and harsh winter weather had kept us apart since last summer.

As we approached the shoreline on foot, we were met by a breaching happy and full of spirit Dusty.  We felt ourselves cheering aloud at the sight of her.

Vanessa and Ute braved the freezing water to join Dusty.  Dusty was full of affection and allowed Vanessa to massage her beak and head while Ute massaged Dusty's belly and pectoral fins.

Dusty even swam gently across Vanessa in attempt to stop her froming leaving engaging her in another 30mins of play.  Dusty stole Vanessa's diving glove and teased her by swimming up to Vanessa with it, however as soon as Vanessa tried to retrieve, Miss cheeky fins took off with it firmly gripped in her mouth.  All we could do was laugh.
Many thanks to the lovely Trevor Read for allowing us to display his beautiful photo's of Dusty.

We went to have a farewell swim with Dusty before returning to Dublin.  There were three swimmers in with her and she engaged everyone in a very cheeky play by leading them through the rocks in an effort to play hide and seek.  She even teased anyone who sat on one rock by pushing their fins and trying to make them fall back in the water.  Dusty's mood changed as swimmers left the water after only a few minutes.  She became very frustrated at being left alone and began to tail slap the water.  She raced out into the bay and began to breach on her side in a temper.

Ute decided to go out to her and we watched as she swam to Ute like a little child looking for comfort from it's mum after falling down.  It was lovely to watch.
