The Irish Raptor Research Centre is run by Dr. Lothar Muschketat & his family.  They are located in the heart of Co. Sligo just outside Ballymote in Portinch.  Lothar has devoted his life to the conservation, education & protection of birds of prey & owls and what an amazing job he and his family are doing.

The centre is open to the public and Lothar offers free-flying demonstrations to the public.  During the demonstration he will lecture on the habitat, evolution & behaviour of these animals and he uses the birds themselves to demonstrate! Its such an experience.  These birds get so close to you as they fly that you can feel the gentle brush of their feathers on your face.

Mike & I discovered this hidden gem in Co. Sligo when we were taking a holiday there.  We were blown away by the beautiful birds (and so many too) that were sitting about the gardens of this truly idilic setting.  The one hour demonstration hosted by Lothar was spectacular.  We got up close & personal with breeds from Kestrel to Bald Eagle and even some beautiful and quite amusing Vultures.  This is an amazing day out for all ages and the admission fee goes into seeing to it that Lothar can continue to do his very important and crucial work for these beauties.

During the demonstration you will learn about the feeding habits, breeding and behaviour of these birds.  Lothar also dispells the many myths that have been created over the centuries around these birds of prey that have given them a bad reputation.

As well as enjoying the presence of the eagles & the owls around you, you will fall in love with Lothar's charismatic and passionate personality and also the friendly and welcoming reception you will receive from his family and staff.

This is a wonderful place and they deserve our support.  I know I want to see these fantastic birds soaring through our Irish skies and with people like Lothar around I am confident I will.
